Of all the amenities our favorite bed and breakfast getaways provide, soap is typically the first goodie that’s unwrapped as weary travelers enjoy some time to freshen up.
No soap-on-a-rope here, these often-delicate bars of sudsy cleanser are quite frequently the first impression a guest has of their new accommodations. Wanting to make that first impression a positive one, innkeepers have a wide variety of soap vendors to choose from. And the options are seemingly endless.
- Do you want traditional bar or liquid soap?
- What scent do you want the soap perfumed with?
- How will you have it packaged? Will you have packaging at all?
- Concerned about the environment and how the soap is produced and packaged?
- If going for a bar of soap, what shape would you like? Fun and whimsical to reflect your inn — sea shells maybe? — or will you stick with a traditional rectangle- or oval-shaped bar?

Greenwich Bay Soaps offers a wide variety of scents and shapes, including a sea-shell, perfect for coastal bed and breakfast locations.
When researching various soap vendors, we received samples from two different companies. One from the Rocky Mountains of Colorado and the other from rolling hills of North Carolina. Here is a quick look at both product lines.
Greenwich Bay, as advertised on their website, has been America’s Soapmaker since 1962 and prides itself on their environmental sensitivity. All their soaps are made with vegetable oils, free from animal testing and come in recyclable packaging, even their liquid bottles. They also offer shampoo and body soap, all in one bar, further reducing waste.
Lathering up with the selection of Greenwich Bay soaps I instantly noted and appreciated their packaging that discouraged waste: “Indulge and leave only a recycled paper wrap.”

The Luxury line of soaps would be a beautiful compliment to any bathroom.
Using several different bars, including the shampoo and body bar, I was a little overwhelmed by the scents. They were a bit too heavily perfumed for my personal taste, especially when considering using it on my long hair. But it was obvious that my hands were exceedingly clean.
Dozens of fragrances are available including Bayberry, Wildflower, Verbena, Unscented Oatmeal, Lavender and Tea Olive in their Early American Cleansing Olive Oil Soap collection. The Pure Glycerine Luxury Soap collection scents include Chardonnay, Mountain Air, Key Lime and Pink Grapefruit. Aloe and Cucumber, Cocoa Butter and Jojoba, Honey and Oatmeal, and Fresh Milk and Shea Butter make up a selection of the scents for the Spa Collection. That variety is so appreciated by innkeepers.
The packaging options were impressive. It’s clear Greenwich Bay excels at helping innkeepers promote their business through specifically unique branded packaging.

Rocky Mountain Body Works & Co., offers custom designed soaps in the shape of the majestic Rocky Mountains.
Rocky Mountain Body Works prides itself on creating extremely unique signature soaps named after the gorgeous terrain and landmarks of Colorado and the Rocky Mountains.
The Black Diamond Coal, while possibly a brilliant gift for a naughty child at Christmas, is actually infused with Cinnamon and Clove. The Unsinkable Molly Brown collection is scented with the relaxing aroma of Lavender and the Mount PepperMint not only has invigorating Peppermint, but also exfoliating poppy seeds.

The Black Diamond Coal design is so clever.
Unwrapping the samples of Unsinkable Molly Brown, I was immediately struck by the fact that it had a simple recycled-paper band for packaging. The biggest thing that caught my attention, however, was the very unique shape of the bar. It was cut in a 3-dimensional shape of the Rocky Mountains. A clever and completely perfect enhancement for the Western-located bed and breakfasts.
Grabbing that bar to indulge in the pleasing lavender aroma, I did notice how the new bar was a bit jagged while lathering up. Those peaks and valleys of the Rocky Mountains were a bit awkward to wash with, but after a couple of uses, they smoothed out nicely.
Since we all know these beautiful soaps will likely be the first thing a guest will sneak into their luggage after a long stay, innkeepers would be smart to select bath products that not only effectively brand your bed and breakfast, but also help capture fond memories.
